SOPHIA VAUGHAN

DIRECTOR

I have always enjoyed ensemble work, in particular, church music, and rarely-sung modern music. I needed to find like-minded musicians who would be happy to experiment and work to a very high standard. My inspiration was The Sixteen and the choir of Kings College, Cambridge.

In January 2003, rehearsals began, and attracted some of the best singers at Trinity College of Music. The ensemble began with very modest performances at local venues, for example, the Reminiscence Centre, Blackheath and St George the-Martyr, Southwark. Gradually our reputation developed and Carolus Rex was invited to sing at a number of important locations, including St James’ Palace and St Martin in-the-Fields, and Covent Garden.

Our success has far exceeded expectations. I am delighted that our hard work and dedication has been recognised, and our talents are now available for a wider audience.
